Many thanks for taking the time to write such an interesting response. We completely agree: having training and contact with students from different countries and with differing professional backgrounds reflects successfully operational demands of Pilots and ATCs. This is also one of the key strengths of our course, we are able to facilitate operational ICAO level 4 and higher discourse between our wide variety of students. This then naturally leads onto individual, personalised pronunciation work that depends on the students own individual problems. Being involved in training with constant contact with different nationalities/back ground I came to the conclusion;
Aviation english profeciency helped, but still far from perfect.
Learning the proper grammer/conversation is not enough. A second level should be introduce to work on phonetics and accent reduction in an effort to enhance communication safety.

I wish I had known at the time – I taught Jessica – as myself in RL not the SL Language Lab teacher, when she was in primary school in Oxfordshire. It would have been great to say hello!
